Arab Sea Ports Federation Institutions

General Assembly

It consists of all the active members in the Federation, while associate and observing members attend and participate in the meetings of the General Assembly without having the right to vote. The General Assembly holds a regular annual meeting as per an invitation of the Federation Chairman of the board, who chairs this meeting. The validity of the regular General Assembly meeting depends upon the attendance of active member representing at least half the States to which Federation active members belong.

Board of Directors

It consists of one representative from each group of members belonging to one Arab country nominated by it. In addition, each country nominates an alternate representative in the council’s meeting in case of the absence of the actual representative. One of the Heads of active delegations chairs the Federation board of directors alternatively according to the Arabic alphabetical order of Arab countries to which members belong, for 2 years. The vice president shall be the Head of delegation, who would be the chairman of the next session. The Federation board of directors meets once every 6 months at least. The meetings of the board of directors shall be deemed valid on the presence of a number of active members representing half the number of States members of the Federation.

General Secretariat

It consists of he Federation Secretary General aided by a staff of employees as per the Federation Structure Chart. The board of directors appoints the Secretary General for 4 years, renewable once.

The Federation participates as an observer in the meetings of the council of Arab Transport Ministers and the meetings of the council of Economic Unity. The Federation also participates in the meetings of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and Port Management Association of North Africa (PMANA).

Due to the significance of the role played by the Federation in the development and improvement of the Arab Sea Ports Facilities, decision no. (183) of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers in its 13th session dated 22/10/1977 included (confirming the council’s decision no. (130) regarding inviting Arab countries, which did not join the "Arab Sea Ports Federation", to join it for universalizing the prospective benefits and maximizing the Federation's efficiency).

The technical committee of the Maritime Transport was assigned to the Arab Sea Ports Federation upon the decision of the council of Arab Transport Ministers no. (222-6th) in its 16th session dated (22-10-2003).
